I also found it's been re-purposed in "Planet of Fire" (the following story) as an tool, a screwdriver or something, same shape & all, just some extra bits added:
I found a few more images of this prop on Google, hopefully these will be of use to someone.
The middle section looks very similar to the leather collar on Matt Smith's sonic screwdriver, so this could be a good starting point for anyone wanting to build a "found parts" replica.
Great finds, 14th! And you're right; that middle section does look like the leather part of the 11th Doctor's sonic screwdriver. (Maybe that part could be "harvested" from the 'Customize Your Sonic Screwdriver' set?)
Was just re-watching Resurrection of the Daleks - this is a really cool device. I was trying to figure out how the device would work if it were real. I think it would have to seed a deep rooted love for Davros. Davros' Love Ray.
This could work in real life. My theory is that this device injects a chemical which damages the free will centre of the brain so they become subservient to the first person to give them orders. Some zombie legends originate from a similar practice used by priests and medicine men in Africa and subsequently the West Indies to create servants/slaves for themselves although I believe those chemicals also harm the intelligence centres of the brain as well.
I just realized something wrong with my rough drawing. I was just drawing out a cardboard template of the device & was figuring out how to make the hourglass shape neck. Then it hit me, the handle is cubical & the neck is circular. Do I mold the bottom part in a square plug shape, or leave a ring overlapping the square bit?
I'm convinced the main body is a good part. All due respect the masters of props and effects in the 80s but it doesn't look like a standard BBC prop. I want to be wrong of course
